Peter's Promise
(Matthew 26.31-35; Mark 14.27-31; Luke 22.31-34)

37“But why can’t I come now, Lord?” he asked. “I’m ready to die for you.”
38Jesus answered, “Die for me? I tell you the truth, Peter—before the cock crows tomorrow morning, you will deny three times that you even know me.
36Simon Peter asked him, ‘Lord, where are you going?’
Jesus replied, ‘Where I am going, you cannot follow now, but you will follow later.’
37Peter asked, ‘Lord, why can’t I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.’
38Then Jesus answered, ‘Will you really lay down your life for me? Very truly I tell you, before the cock crows, you will disown me three times!
